The Field of Myofunctional Therapy is Exploding!

The field has grown so much over the last five years. My practice has expanded at a speed I could never have imagined.

In addition to hundreds of motivated patients, I’m being contacted every day by dentists, hygienists, SLPs, and other medical professionals from all over the world.

They’re all looking for ways to integrate myofunctional therapy into their practice and to offer a higher standard of care to their patients.

Course Contents

This Crash Course in Myofunctional Therapy offers a thorough introduction to the field, aimed at healthcare professionals who are new to or interested in orofacial myofunctional therapy.

The presentation starts by explaining what myofunctional therapy is and why it is becoming more important in dental, airway, speech, and overall health fields.

It helps participants learn to identify early signs of dysfunction, such as mouth breathing, tongue thrust, low tongue posture, and improper swallowing, and explains why these minor habits can have lasting effects on health and development.

The core of the course focuses on the four main goals of myofunctional therapy:

  1. Establishing consistent nasal breathing
  2. Promoting correct tongue posture at rest
  3. Achieving a proper, functional swallow pattern
  4. Maintaining a gentle, habitual lip seal

Participants learn how these goals are essential for healthy orofacial function and how deviations can lead to or worsen conditions like sleep-disordered breathing, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, TMD (temporomandibular joint dysfunction), orthodontic relapse, and even behavioral or attention issues in children.

Key questions frequently asked by providers new to this work are also covered, such as:

  • How do I identify the signs of myofunctional dysfunction during an exam?
  • What’s the link between oral habits and airway health?
  • How does improper oral function contribute to TMD or orthodontic relapse?
  • Can myofunctional therapy help prevent sleep-disordered breathing in children or adults?

Some Course Feedback

"This was a fabulous course introduction. This is making me want to take this course and implement it into my independent dental hygiene office in the near future. Thank you so much."
